SUBJECT: Evangelism

PROPOSITION: In this lesson we will study about talking about Jesus to our friends and finding constructive ways to do this.

AIM: This lesson is designed to help us be more evangelistic.

INTRODUCTION:

1. Read: Acts 4:12 – “Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”

2. About the Text:

1) The Christian always has something to talk about—Jesus.

2) If anyone is going to be saved, it will be through Jesus.

3) We need to be talking about Him to our friends.

4) “These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world” (John 16:33).

5) Jesus has overcome the world, so we should not fear talking about Him.

3. Ref. to S, T, P, O, and A.

DISCUSSION:

I.   Why Talk About Jesus?

1. Jesus is God’s message for our friends.

1) “And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned” (Mark 16:15-16).

2) “Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ” (Acts 2:36).

3) “Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:12).

4) “Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me’” (John 14:6).

2. Jesus was the only begotten Son of God.

1) “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16).

2) “In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him” (1 John 4:9).

3. Jesus reveals who God is.

1) “No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him” (John 1:18).

2) We learn who Jesus is by studying the New Testament.

3) We can be sure that all of the New Testament is Jesus’ message.

4) “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you” (John 14:26).

4. Jesus died on the cross for the sins of mankind.

1) This is the central message of the New Testament.

2) “For He Himself is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of separation, having abolished in His flesh the enmity, that is, the law of commandments contained in ordinances, so as to create in Himself one new man from the two, thus making peace, and that He might reconcile them both to God in one body through the cross, thereby putting to death the enmity” (Ephesians 2:14-16).

3) Christ has all authority today – Matthew 28:18.

II.  How Do I Talk About Jesus to my Friends?

1. Talk to Your Friends About the Bible

1) Do you understand what you are reading?

2) “Then Philip opened his mouth, and beginning at this Scripture, preached Jesus to him” (Acts 8:35).

3) Philip took the Eunuch where he was at in his study and taught him about Jesus.

2. Invite a Friend to Worship

1) Offer to give them a ride in your car. You can talk to them in the car.

2) “Then Paul, as his custom was, went in to them, and for three Sabbaths reasoned with them from the Scriptures explaining and demonstrating that the Christ had to suffer and rise again from the dead, and saying, ‘This Jesus whom I preach to you is the Christ.’” (Acts 17:2-3).

3. Use Popular Methods of Communication (Social Media, etc.)

1) Paul used popular methods of communication. Some will hear.

2) “Then Paul stood in the midst of the Areopagus…” (Acts 17:22).

3) “And when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some mocked, while others said, ‘We will hear you again on this matter’” (Acts 17:32).

4. Invite Your Friends to Church Activities

1) We have many activities to which to invite our friends.

2) Gospel Meetings, Learning to Serve, Youth Devotionals, etc.
