The Cause and Effect Argument for the Existence of God
Also known as the Cosmological Argument for the existence of God, the cause and effect argument reasons from the existence of the universe back to its first Cause. This slide show walks through the basic premises to the conclusion that God must exist. Feel free to advance the slides as you listen to the audio.

Understanding the Cause And Effect Argument
The cause and effect argument, also called the cosmological argument, starts with something everyone knows: every effect has a cause. The universe had a beginning, so it must have a cause, and that cause must be greater than the universe itself. That cause is God.
The Hebrew writer said, “For every house is built by someone, but He who built all things is God” (Hebrews 3:4).
Christians do not need to be afraid of hard questions. The evidence for God is all around us, and careful reasoning leads to Him. Follow the slides as you listen to the audio. For the other arguments in this series, see The Cause and Effect Argument, The Design Argument, and The Moral Argument.
How to use these slides: Advance the slides as you listen, and pause to think through each premise before moving on. Ask yourself whether the premise is true and whether the conclusion follows. These studies are useful for young people preparing for college, for anyone with doubts, and for Christians who want to answer a friend’s questions with gentleness and respect. If you would like to talk through any of these arguments, please contact us.
