Sermon Outlines on the Christian Graces

The Christian Graces are found in 2 Peter 1:5-9:

But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love. For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. For he who lacks these things is shortsighted, even to blindness, and has forgotten that he was cleansed from his old sins.

This list of virtues is one of many found in the New Testament that relate to Christian Living. As Peter writes, practicing the Christian Graces will enable the Christian to be fruitful in his walk with Christ. These graces are essential to Christian living, and regularly must be added throughout one’s life. In this series of sermons, we look at each Christian Grace and how it relates to Christian Living focusing on the relationship of each Christian grace to the whole, and how it all culminates in agape-love. This list of Christian graces is also cyclical. Once one has worked through them, it is time to go back to the beginning of the list and build upon them again. One may live an entire lifetime and never be finished practically applying the Christian graces to one’s life. Such is the sublime nature of these virtues that one may readily repeat each daily and never cease receiving the joy they give.
