Contending Lawfully
An athlete is not crowned unless he competes lawfully (2 Timothy 2:5). To receive the crown of righteousness, we must live by God's standard, not cheat.

The Brothers Karamazov contrasts "all things are lawful" with "every man is a debtor to all." Paul teaches that we owe everyone a Christlike life (Philippians 2:4).
Our sins separate us from God (Isaiah 59:1-2), and our own efforts cannot save us. Caught between a rock and a hard place, only Jesus delivers us (Romans 7:24-25).
As school starts, let's remember the spiritual comes first (Matthew 6:33). Secular education should be tempered by godliness and used to the glory of God.
Luke 24:1ff? Our meeting upon the first day of the week is not by accident nor by arbitrary selection. There are some scriptures which specifically mention the first day of the week and there are other scriptures in which the first day of the week is implied. Let's look at these scriptures and see what we can gain in understanding from them.
The counter-cultural truths that our culture refuses to accept are: 1) Homosexuality is a destructive lifestyle; 2) Religious people are more charitable than non-religious people; 3) Religious people live better quality lives than non-religious people. Each one will know that being correctly religious is morally praiseworthy, but accepting these prevailing cultural beliefs promotes immorality. Each one will know that it is an objectively good thing to be correctly religious.
Have you ever heard someone say this before? It is a very hurtful thing to say and indicates deep resentment and anger.
In this lesson, we will look at some of Paul’s methods of evangelism. Each listener should be able to learn from Paul’s example of evangelism. I hope that we will follow Paul’s example and be more evangelistic.
Discontentment is a lack of faith. In 1 Timothy 6:17 Paul writes, “Command those who are rich in this present age not to be haughty, nor to trust in uncertain riches but in the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy.” God is the greatest giver and He gives richly all things to enjoy; let’s be content with Him.
What we desire of others reveals our expectations of them and our high opinion of ourselves.

We often refer to the church as the family of God, and it is, but what does it mean that Jesus is our brother?
An audio lesson by Paul Coffman, a preacher in Linden, Texas, who has traveled to Uganda for four years in mission work overseen by the Dekalb church of Christ.
For something to edify, it must have meaning. Not in the sense of emotion or feeling, but in the sense of the understanding. That is, if something is not intelligible or comprehensible by the intellect, then it cannot edify. True edification can only come through a situation where knowledge and instruction are imparted with the attitude of love.
When you quench a fire, you put out the fire. When you quench your thirst, your thirst goes away. The word “spirit” here could refer to the Holy Spirit, or one’s own personal spirit. Either way, spirit is the source of all things spiritual. So the basic meaning of the command is not to put out the source of all things spiritual.
We can say "Jesus is the head of the church" all day long, but it will be meaningless for our lives if we are not following Him.
