How Did God Make Miracles?

A miracle is an obvious work of God that is outside the normal laws of nature. God is able to do miracles because He is powerful. One of God’s names in the Bible is El Shaddai which means God Almighty. We read about God’s great power in many places in the Bible. The very first place we read about it is in Genesis 1:1 which says, “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.” Jeremiah tells us that God used His great power when He created the earth in Jeremiah 32:17: “Ah, Lord God! Behold, You have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and outstretched arm. There is nothing too hard for You.” God’s power is so great that he can change things that we don’t have the power to change. There are some things that are impossible for us, as humans, to do, but God is able to do what is impossible for us to do. In Luke 1:37 we read, “For with God, nothing shall be impossible.” In Luke 18:27, Jesus said, “The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.” What has God done with His great power? He parted the waters of the Red Sea for the Israelites. He brought down fire from heaven for Elijah on Mount Carmel. He saved Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego from the fiery furnace. He saved Daniel from the lion’s den. The greatest act of power that God ever exercised, however, was resurrecting Jesus from the dead, and one day God will use His great power to resurrect everyone from the dead.

God is able to do miracles because He is infinite in knowledge. Psalm 147:5 says, “Great is our Lord, and mighty in power; His understanding is infinite.” God can do miracles like knowing other people’s thoughts, predicting the future, or even saying what happened in a remote corner of the world because His understanding is infinite. This means that God knows everything. There is not one thought that we can think that God doesn’t already know it. We cannot fool God. He sees everything and knows everything. Psalm 139:1-16 tells us about the great knowledge of God. The greatest knowledge that God has is that His Son, Jesus, died on the cross so that we could be forgiven of our sins. This is the knowledge of the gospel. In Romans 1:16, Paul wrote, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.”

God is able to do miracles because He is infinite in goodness. In Mark 10:18: “So Jesus said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good but One, that is, God.” God is good, and He loves everyone so much that He gave His Son as a gift to humanity. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16). In 1 John 4:8 and 16 we read, “God is love.” God’s goodness enabled God to do miracles that helped people with some of their problems. This is specifically shown in the life of Jesus. In Acts 10:38, Peter said, “how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.” Jesus healed people of sickness, uncontrolled blood flow, fevers, demon possession, paralysis, crippled arms and legs, and he even raised some from the dead. He did it because He was good.
