You Who Are Spiritual

TITLE: You Who Are Spiritual

SUBJECT: Restoration

PROPOSITION: In order to restore someone in a spirit of meekness, we must be spiritual people ourselves in our 1) Wishes, 2) Words, and 3) Walk.

OBJECTIVE: In this lesson we want to encourage the faithful to help the unfaithful to be faithful.

INTRODUCTION:

1. Read: Galatians 6:1

2. About the Text:

1) In Galatians 6:1 Paul talks about the spiritual helping those who are overtaken in a trespass.

2) It is the obligation of the spiritual to help those who are in such a state.

3) We must be spiritual to do this.

4) To be spiritual means to follow the direction of the Spirit.

5) Galatians 5:16 – “I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.”

3. The budget.

1) Our brother has presented the budget.

2) We have lost some of our members to death, and others have moved away.

3) We have some incoming members, and we are glad for them.

4) But our overall incoming is not as much as our outgoing.

5) We need to focus on bringing back some of those who are out of duty.

6) As long as the church remains on earth, there will be those who are out of duty.

7) These are Christians who are not fulfilling their basic Christian responsibilities.

8) Attendance is an indicator of one who is fulfilling basic Christian responsibilities.

9) When Christians don’t attend the weekly services, you can know there is a problem.

DISCUSSION: To restore someone in the spirit of meekness, we must be spiritual in our . . .

I.   Wishes

1. These are our desires.

1) What are our desires?

2) What is it we want out of life?

3) What do we spend most of our time thinking about?

4) If God is not at the top of the list, then there is a problem, period.

2. Matthew 23:37-40 – All of our desires should be centered around this.

3. Think about the two sets of desires presented in Galatians 5:17-25.

4. We can’t restore the wayward until our thinking is spiritual!

II.  Words

1. Colossians 4:6 – “Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one.”

1) Seasoned with salt comes from the Jewish sacrifices.

2) Leviticus 2:3 – “And every offering of your grain offering you shall season with salt; you shall not allow the salt of the covenant of your God to be lacking from your grain offering. With all your offerings you shall offer salt.”

3) Paul is talking about our speech being sacrificial in nature.

2. Our lips are not our own.

1) Psalm 12:4 – The wicked say, “With our tongue we will prevail; Our lips are our own; Who is lord over us?”

2) Our lips must be used to honor God in everything we do.

3) We need to use them to talk to others about Christ, the gospel, and spiritual matters.

4) I enjoy good conversation, but we must move beyond the weather, sports, and headline news and into spiritual matters.

5) Our speech is empty and vain otherwise.

6) Romans 15:5-6 – “Now may the God of patience and comfort grant you to be like-minded toward one another, according to Christ Jesus, 6 that you may with one mind and one mouth glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

3. We can’t restore the wayward until we are talking about spiritual things!

III. Walk

1. Romans 12:1-2 – “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”

2. We’ve got to use what we’ve got, not sit on it! Parable of the talents – Mathew 25:14-30.

3. We were made to obey God – Ecclesiastes 12:13. This is our whole duty as humans.

4. We can’t restore the wayward until our life is sacrificed to God!

CONCLUSION:

1. Our challenges . . .

1) We have some great challenges to face in 2017.

2) The problem is not physical; the problem is spiritual!

3) We’ve got to be a spiritual people.

4) We’ve got to trust God.

5) The real danger is: God will take away everything we have if we are not using it for him.

2. As spiritual people, we must be about the business of restoring those who are overtaken in trespasses.

3. We must be spiritual to do this!

1) In our Wishes!

2) In our Words!

3) In our Walk!
