PROPOSITION: Knowing Christ and Him Crucified means having 1) God’s Wisdom, 2) The Mind of Christ, 3) God’s Temple.

OBJECTIVE: To study and learn 1 Corinthians 2-3 in a structured way so as to understand and avoid the divisions of the church in Corinth.

INTRODUCTION:

1. Read: 1 Corinthians 2:1-5

2. About the Text:

1) There was division in the church at Corinth.

2) It was caused by man’s wisdom being elevated above God’s wisdom.

3) Paul sought to bring them back to Christ’s wisdom.

4) This wisdom brings all things to us so that we don’t need to divide to get what we desire.

DISCUSSION: Knowing Christ and Him Crucified Means . . .

I.   We Have God’s Wisdom (2:1-9).

1. This is Christ crucified (1-2).

1) Galatians 6:14 – “But far be it from me to boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.”

2) 1 Corinthians 15:1-4

2. Faith is in the power of God, not human wisdom (3-5).

1) Romans 10:17

2) Romans 1:16-17

3. The rulers of this world do not have this wisdom (6-9).

1) Their wisdom is the wisdom of power, but Matthew 20:28 – “even as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

2) James 4:10 – “Humble yourself in the sight of the Lord ….”

II.  We Have the Mind of Christ – God’s Inspired Message (2:10-16).

1. God has revealed His wisdom to us through His Spirit (10-12).

1) The Spirit knows the mind of God.

2) The Spirit reveals God’s will.

3) Ephesians 3:1-5

2. This is spiritual wisdom, not carnal (13-15) – See Galatians 5.

3. This wisdom is the mind of Christ (16) – See Romans 8.

III. We Have God’s Temple (3:1-23).

1. God’s temple is erected on the backs of fellow laborers (3:1-9).

2. The foundation of God’s temple is Jesus Christ (3:10-15) – Matthew 16:17-19.

3. You are God’s temple (3:16-17) – Ephesians 2.

4. With God’s wisdom, you have all things (3:18-23).

1) There’s no need to divide.

2) Ephesians 4:1-4.

CONCLUSION:

1. Knowing Christ and Him Crucified means having . . .
