PROPOSITION: In this lesson, we will look at the song “Wonderful Words of Life.” These words are 1) Beautiful, 2) Given, 3) Sanctifying.

OBJECTIVE: To understand more about this song that we sing and the great message that it teaches.

INTRODUCTION:

1. Read: Psalm 19:7-11

2. About the Text:

1) God’s word does great things!

2) This song “Wonderful Words of Life” teaches us about what God’s word does.

DISCUSSION: The Wonderful Words of Life are . . .

I.   Beautiful

1. “Sing them over again to me, wonderful words of life.”

1) We sing God’s words in worship to Him.

2) “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord” (Colossians 3:16).

2. “Let me more of their beauty see, wonderful words of life.”

1) God’s words are beautiful because they lead to a beautiful life.

2) This is not beautiful in the sense of the world, but God.

3) Holiness is beautiful.

4) “Give unto the Lord the glory due to His name; Worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness” (Psalm 29:2).

5) “How beautiful upon the mountains Are the feet of him who brings good news, Who proclaims peace, Who brings glad tidings of good things, Who proclaims salvation, Who says to Zion, “Your God reigns!””(Isaiah 52:7).

3. “Words of life and beauty, teach me faith and duty. Beautiful words, wonderful words, wonderful words of life.”

1) “Faith comes by hearing ….” (Romans 10:17).

2) “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God and keep His commandments, For this is man’s all” (Ecclesiastes 12:13).

3) “By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and keep His commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome” (1 John 5:2-3).

II.  Given

1. Christ the blessed One gives to all wonderful words of life.

1) “It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life” (John 6:63).

2) “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly” (John 10:10).

2. Sinner list to His loving call, wonderful words of life.

1) “to which He called you by our gospel, for the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ” (2 Thessalonians 2:14).

2) “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light” (Matthew 11:28-30).

3. All so freely given, wooing us to heaven. Beautiful words, wonderful words, wonderful words of life.

1) “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you” (1 Peter 1:3-4).

2) “So now, brethren, I commend you to God and to the word of His grace, which is able to build you up and give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified” (Acts 20:32).

III. Sanctifying

1. Sweetly echo the gospel call, wonderful words of life.

1) This is a command.

2) We are to echo the gospel call to others.

3) “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.” (Matthew 28:19-20).

4) “Him we preach, warning every man and teaching every man in all wisdom, that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus” (Colossians 1:28).

2. Offer pardon and peace to all, wonderful words of life.

1) This is a command.

2) We are to offer pardon and peace to all.

3) “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid” (John 14:27).

4) “Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit” (Acts 2:38).

3. Jesus only Savior sanctify forever. Beautiful words, wonderful words, wonderful words of life.

1) When people obey the gospel, Jesus sanctifies them with His truth.

2) “Therefore Jesus also, that He might sanctify the people with His own blood, suffered outside the gate” (Hebrews 13:12).

3) “Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth” (John 17:17).

CONCLUSION:

2. “Therefore lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls. But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves” (James 1:21-22).

3. Invitation
