“Will You Not Tell it Today?”

2. About the Text:

1) Paul was a debtor to preach the gospel.

2) He recognized the tremendous blessings and benefits in Christ.

3) The song “Will You Not Tell It Today?” reminds us of that as well.

4) It was written by Jessie Brown Pounds in 1887.

5) She also wrote “Anywhere with Jesus” and “Beautiful Isle of Somewhere.”

1. “If the name of the Savior is precious to you, If His care has been constant and tender and true, If the light of His presence has brightened your way, O will you not tell of your gladness today?”

2. By forgiving us of our sins.

7. If you enjoy the care and blessings of Christ, why not tell someone about it?

1. “If your faith in the Savior has bro’t its reward, If a strength you have found in the strength of your Lord, If the hope of a rest in His palace is sweet, O will you not, brother, the story repeat?”

2. By rewarding us.

1) “Cast not away therefore your boldness, which hath great recompense of reward” (Hebrews 10:35).

2) “and without faith it is impossible to be well-pleasing unto him; for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that seek after him” (Hebrews 11:6).

3. By strengthening us.

1) “I can do all things in him that strengtheneth me” (Philippians 4:13).

2) “that he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, that ye may be strengthened with power through his Spirit in the inward man” (Ephesians 3:16).

4. By giving us hope of rest.

1) “There remaineth therefore a sabbath rest for the people of God” (Hebrews 4:9).

2) “And I heard a voice from heaven saying, Write, Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from henceforth: yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labors; for their works follow with them” (Revelation 14:13).

2. There are souls around us living in sin.

1) “for all have sinned, and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23).

2) “If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us” (1 John 1:10).

3. The Master has told us to bid them come in.

1) “Go ye therefore, and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them into the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit: teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I commanded you: and lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world” (Matthew 28:19-20).

2) “And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to the whole creation. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that disbelieveth shall be condemned” (Mark 16:15-16).

4. Jesus gives the sweet invitation.

1) “Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light” (Matthew 11:28-30).

2) “And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And he that heareth, let him say, Come. And he that is athirst, let him come: he that will, let him take the water of life freely” (Revelation 22:17).
