I.   Grace Causes us to Stand (1-5)

2) Perseverance produces Character.

3) Character produces Hope.

5. We have the love of God.

6. We have the Holy Spirit.

1) The Holy Spirit is the down payment of inheritance (Ephesians 1:14).

2) This is why our hope does not disappoint.

3) It has the guarantee of the Holy Spirit.

7. All these blessings are due to the grace of God.

II.  Grace Reconciles (6-11)

1. Christ died for sinners (6-8).

1) It was when they were without strength.

2) It was when they were ungodly.

3) It was not because they were righteous or good.

4) It was when they were sinners.

5) This demonstrates God’s love.

6) It also shows that it was not because of anything that men have done to merit this favor.

2. Christ saves sinners (9-10).

2) We are saved from wrath.

3) We are reconciled by His death.

2) Sinned entered the world.

3) Death entered the world through sin.

4) Death spread to all because all sinned.

5) Death reigned in the world as a result.

2. However, through one man, Jesus Christ, grace and the free gift of salvation abound to many (15-17).

1) The free gift is not like the offense, bringing death.

2) Instead it brings grace to many.

3) That is to say that grace is stronger than and overcomes sin.

4) The free gift came from many offenses.

5) However, the free gift resulted in justification, not judgment and death.

6) Death reigned through the offense of one.

7) Those who receive abundance of grace and gift of righteousness will reign.

8) They will reign in life through Jesus Christ.

3. In Christ, many experience grace by the righteousness of one (18-19).

1) Judgment and condemnation came to all men through one’s offense.

2) The free gift and justification came to all men through one’s righteous act.

3) One man’s disobedience made many men sinners.

4) One man’s obedience makes many men righteous.

4. Grace now reigns over sin (20-21).

1) The law entered that sin might abound.
