TITLE: The Wonderful Works of God
SUBJECT: Biblical text and the Call of the Gospel
PROPOSITION: To Teach the wonderful works of God as reference in Acts 2, pertaining to the Israelites (and Gentiles) in the proclamation of the Gospel made on Pentecost
OBJECTIVE: To assist in our understanding of the text and thereby gain important knowledge and skills for evangelism
INTRODUCTION:
1. Read: Acts 2:1-11
2. About the Text:
1) Pentecost – holy feast day of the Jews. “devout” verse 5
2) Galileans – speech/appearance observed as regionally distinct
3) “how” interest being built
4) “we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God”
3. Ref. to S, T, P, O, and A.
DISCUSSION:
I. Prophecy made/prophecy fulfilled
1. Explanation given in answer to question raised
1) Not drunken discourse, but sober and expedient communication
2) Time reference roughly 9 am in the morning.
3) Certainty and conviction surely urgency in the address.
2. Joel 2 prophecy cited with fulfillment in real time
1) Pour out my Spirit
2) People will prophesy, see visions, and dream dreams.
3) All of this as a sign of the fulfillment of God’s will and His involvement.
3. Whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved. Verse 21
1) Interpretation was still limited at this time to Jews instead of a real whosoever
2) “Call on the name of the Lord”-would leave people open and ready to receive God’s instructions.
3) Relevance of salvation sent from God by the Messiah for all of these devout Jews
II. Connection to the Messiah and Salvation for all
1. V. 22 Jesus of Nazareth and His miracles
1) Approved of God
2) Miracles, wonders, and signs God did by Him in their midst
3) Their own witness to these things is enlisted for credence and explanation of the current events.
2. Jesus’s mission: summed up “by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God”
3. He has been crucified, slain, buried, and raised up! (Romans 1:5; 6:1-6)
III. God raised him up
1. Prophecy given to David (Psalm 16:10) fulfilled!
2. Not possible He should be holden of it-death-
3. God counteracted what man did and used it at the same time
4. Holy One = Christ = Jesus of Nazareth
5. We all are witnesses – verse 32
6. Witness of the Holy Spirit – verse 33
CONCLUSION: Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

1) Undeniable conclusions – pricked in the heart- Acts 24:25
2) Clear instructions verse 38
3) Decisions rendered affect our soul’s destiny
2. Invitation. Will you be saved? Will you be among the wonderful works of God?
