TITLE: Seek Ye First the Kingdom of God

SUBJECT: God’s Commandments

PROPOSITION: In this lesson we will study the principle parts of Matthew 6:33 and how they apply to our lives.

OBJECTIVE: Each person should know Matthew 6:33 and how it applies to his life.

INTRODUCTION:

1. Read: Matthew 6:33

2. About the Text:

1) This is a familiar verse to all of us.

2) It has been captured in a song even.

3) Do we understand the import of this command?

3. Ref. to S, T, P, O, and A.

DISCUSSION:

I.   Prescription – Seek

1. This is a command.

2. A call for action.

3. We have an obligation.

4. “And He has made from one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the face of the earth, and has determined their preappointed times and the boundaries of their dwellings, so that they should seek the Lord, in the hope that they might grope for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us; for in Him we live and move and have our being, as also some of your own poets have said, ‘For we are also His offspring’” (Acts 17:26-28).

5. We must seek!

II.  People – You

1. Jesus was speaking to people.

2. These were average people just like you and me.

3. They had needs just like you and me.

4. We actually have it much better than most if not all of them did.

5. Jesus did not use their needs as an excuse to justify their neglect of God.

6. John 3:16 – whosoever

III. Priority – First

1. Jesus sets the priorities, not us (Matthew 28:18).

2. First means first, not second or third.

3. The first commandment is to love God (Matthew 22:39-40).

IV.  Place – The Kingdom

1. The Kingdom is the church (Matthew 16:18-19).

2. The church is the place for the saved.

3. “For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body” (Ephesians 5:23).

4. God expects us to build up the kingdom by seeking and saving the lost (Luke 19:10).

V.   Possession – Of God

1. The kingdom/church belongs to God.

2. It was paid for by His blood (Acts 20:28).

3. Christians are citizens of the kingdom (Ephesians 2:19).

4. We are members of the body (Romans 12:5).

5. Jesus Christ is the head of the church (Colossians 1:18).

VI.  Principle – and His righteousness.

1. Man’s righteousness is nothing (Jeremiah 10:23).

2. We must submit to the righteousness of God (Romans 10:1-3).

3. That righteousness is found in the gospel (Romans 1:16-17).

VII. Perishables – and all these things

1. Food, clothing, shelter.

2. These are things that don’t last.

3. Yes, we have a physical need for them, but not forever.

4. They are NOT the priority.

5. They are not to be loved! (1 John 2:15-17)

VIII.Provision – shall be added to you

1. God will give us what we need.

2. “Command those who are rich in this present age not to be haughty, nor to trust in uncertain riches but in the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy” (1 Timothy 6:17).

3. “And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19).

CONCLUSION:

1. Seek Ye First the Kingdom of God

2. Invitation
