God Has Spoken in a Way We Can Understand

TITLE: God Has Spoken in a Way We Can Understand

SUBJECT: Can We All Understand the Bible Alike?

PROPOSITION: God has spoken in a way we can understand because 1) God knows how to communicate, 2) The Bible is written in a language we can understand, and 3) Jesus gives us his example so that we may follow.

OBJECTIVE: Each person should know that he/she can understand and obey the Bible.

AIM: To build confidence in understanding and knowing the Bible.

INTRODUCTION:

1. Read: Hebrews 1:1-2

2. About the Text:

1) God has always communicated to the world.

2) In times past, it was in various ways.

3) Today it is through His Son, Jesus.

4) “No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him” (John 1:18).

5) Jesus sought to leave us with a permanent record of his work and ministry.

6) “These things I have spoken to you while being present with you. But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you” (John 14:25-26).

7) “But when the Helper comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify of Me. And you also will bear witness, because you have been with Me from the beginning” (John 15:26-27).

DISCUSSION:

I.   God Knows How to Communicate

1. God knows all the thoughts of man.

1) “And again, ‘The Lord knows the thoughts of the wise, that they are futile’” (1 Corinthians 3:20).

2) “For I know their works and their thoughts. It shall be that I will gather all nations and tongues; and they shall come and see My glory” (Isaiah 66:18).

2. God created people and their abilities to use language.

1) “And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being” (Genesis 2:7).

2) “So the Lord said to him, ‘Who has made man’s mouth? Or who makes the mute, the deaf, the seeing, or the blind? Have not I, the Lord?’” (Exodus 4:11).

3. God’s word does exactly what God wants it to do.

1) “Every word of God is pure; He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him” (Proverbs 30:5).

2) So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, But it shall accomplish what I please, And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it” (Isaiah 55:11).

3) “For no word from God shall be void of power” (Luke 1:37 ASV).

4. God knows how to preserve His words.

1) ““As for Me,” says the Lord, “this is My covenant with them: My Spirit who is upon you, and My words which I have put in your mouth, shall not depart from your mouth, nor from the mouth of your descendants, nor from the mouth of your descendants’ descendants,” says the Lord, “from this time and forevermore.”” (Isaiah 59:21).

2) “Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away” (Matthew 24:35).

II.  God Wrote the Bible in Language We Can Understand

1. God inspired the Bible. It is His word.

1) “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work” (2 Timothy 3:16-17).

2) “And so we have the prophetic word confirmed, which you do well to heed as a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts; knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation, for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit” (2 Peter 1:19-21).

2. We can know what God wants us to understand.

1) “It seemed good to me also, having had perfect understanding of all things from the very first, to write to you an orderly account, most excellent Theophilus, that you may know the certainty of those things in which you were instructed” (Luke 1:3-4).

2) “How that by revelation He made known to me the mystery (as I have briefly written already, by which, when you read, you may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ), which in other ages was not made known to the sons of men, as it has now been revealed by the Spirit to His holy apostles and prophets” (Ephesians 3:3-5).

3. God’s message is objectively demonstrable.

1) “Many other signs therefore did Jesus in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book: but these are written, that ye may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye may have life in his name” (John 20:30-31).

2) “And the multitudes gave heed with one accord unto the things that were spoken by Philip, when they heard, and saw the signs which he did” (Acts 8:6).

III. God Gives us Examples So that We May Follow

1. We need examples to imitate.

1) “For hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, that ye should follow his steps” (1 Peter 2:21).

2) “For I have given you an example, that ye also should do as I have done to you” (John 13:15).

2. We need examples to learn.

1) “For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that through patience and through comfort of the scriptures we might have hope” (Romans 15:4).

2) “Now these things happened unto them by way of example; and they were written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages are come” (1 Corinthians 10:11).

3. We need examples to teach others.

1) “Even so let your light shine before men; that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven” (Matthew 5:16).

2) “Be ye imitators of me, even as I also am of Christ.” (1 Corinthians 11:1).
