PROPOSITION: The psalmist declares the glory of God through 1) The World, 2) The Word, and 3) His Wish.

OBJECTIVE: Every one should understand that all things were made to declare the glory of God.

1) All things were made to declare God’s glory.

2) The psalmist focuses on the creation, God’s word, and his desire to praise God.

DISCUSSION:

I.   The World

1. The heavens declare God’s glory. (Romans 1:19, 20).

1) The heavens. (Sun, moon, stars, planets, comets, etc.)

2) The firmament. (Atmosphere of the earth).

2. Each passing day declares God’s glory. (Anthropic Principle)

1) Day

2) Night

3. The declaration is understandable by all mankind. (Romans 1:19, 20)

1) It is a universal language.

2) It is a universal message.

4. The very Sun itself makes this declaration. (Anthropic Principle)

1) In its “rising.”

2) In its circuit.

3) In its heat.

II.  The Word

1. The law of the Lord

1) It is perfect. (James 1:25)

2) It converts the soul (James 1:21)

2. The testimony of the Lord

1) It is sure. (Psalm 119:152; Psalm 111:7)

2) It makes wise the simple. (Proverbs 1:1-6)

3. The statues of the Lord

1) They are right. (Psalm 119:128; Ephesians 6:1)

2) They rejoice the heart. (Psalm 1)

4. The commandment of the Lord.

1) It is pure. (Proverbs 30:5; Rom.7:12; 1 Peter 1:23)

2) It enlightens the eyes. (Psalm 119:130; John 1:9)

5. The fear of the Lord

1) Is clean. (Galatians 5:23; against such there is no law).

2) Endures forever. (1 Peter 1:23)

6. The Judgments of the Lord

1) They are true. (John 17:17)

2) They are wholly righteous. (Romans 1:16,17).

7. Additional characteristics of God’s word.

1) To be desired more than gold. (Psalm 119:72; Matthew 13:44; Matthew 16:26).

2) It is sweeter than honey. (Psalm 119:103)

3) God’s servants are warned. (Psalm 119:11; Acts 20:31)

4) Great reward comes to those who keep them. (Hebrews 11:6; 2 John 1:8)

III. The Wish

1. To avoid unrighteousness.

1) In understanding error. (1 John 4:1)

2) In being cleansed from secret sins. (Hebrews 4:13)

3) In keeping away from presumptuous sins. (Hebrews 10:26)

4) In not letting sin have dominion over him. (Rom.6:12-14).

5) In being upright. (Acts 24:16)

6) In being Innocent from the great transgression. (1 John 1:9)

2. To be acceptable to God.

1) Through the words of his mouth. (Hebrews 13:15)

2) Through the meditation of his heart. (Matt.22:37)

3) Through the one who is his strength. (Rom.5:6; 2 Cor.12:9)

4) Through the one who is his redeemer. (1 Peter 1:18, 19)
