1) The Psalm is about the Messiah.

2) In Acts 2:30-31, Peter, by inspiration of the Holy Spirit, says, “Being therefore a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins he would set one upon his throne; he foreseeing this spake of the resurrection of the Christ, that neither was he left unto Hades, nor did his flesh see corruption.”

I.   Fellowship (1-4).

1. The Messiah has fellowship with the LORD.

II.  Faithfulness (5-8)

1. The LORD is His inheritance.

1) The LORD is his portion and cup.

2) He maintains His lot – “My Father, who hath given them unto me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand” (John 10:21).

3) It is pleasant.

4) He has a goodly heritage –

a. His station and God’s people are His heritage.

b. “but when the fulness of the time came, God sent forth his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, that he might redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons. And because ye are sons, God sent forth the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, Abba, Father. So that thou art no longer a bondservant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir through God” (Galatians 4:4-7).

5) Jesus always made His relationship with the Father His priority.

a. “And he that sent me is with me; he hath not left me alone; for I do always the things that are pleasing to him” (John 8:29).

b. “For he received from God the Father honor and glory, when there was borne such a voice to him by the Majestic Glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased” (2 Peter 1:17).

2. The LORD is His counsel.

1) He gives him counsel.

a. “Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to accomplish his work” (John 4:34).

b. “I can of myself do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is righteous; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of him that sent me” (John 5:30).

2) His heart instructs him at night.

3) Gethsemane – Luke 22:39-46 – an angel strengthened Him.

3. The LORD is always before Him.

1) The Messiah always has the Lord before Him.

a. He is the LORD (Psalm 110:1).

b. He had the Spirit without measure (John 3:34).

2) The LORD is at his right hand.

3) He will not be moved.

III. Future (9-11)

1. His heart is glad concerning His future.

1) His heart is glad.

2) His glory rejoices.

3) “looking unto Jesus the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising shame, and hath sat down at the right hand of the throne of God” (Hebrews 12:2).

4) He brought many sons to glory (Hebrews 2:10).
