Want To Do What You Are Doing

hope

There have been several occasions when my children have complained. Usually, it is because they are doing something that they “don’t want to do.” My response to them is, “Well, then, want to do what you are doing!”

Our discontents originate from self’s desires relative to decisions that we choose. We do not want to live with the consequences of our choices! Here are a few examples of what I am talking about: We want to make dinner and have a family meal, but we don’t want to do the dishes; we want to wear nice clothes, but we don’t want to do the laundry; we want to have a nice place to live, but we don’t want to mow the lawn; we want to have a great education from a good school, but we don’t want to do the homework. Instead, we should want to do what we are doing! We should accept our choices, love our decisions, and own our life! “And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men” (Colossians 3:23).

This is not to say that we should revel in sin. Grace is not given for that purpose (Jude 1:4). But God has given us great freedom on how to arrange our lives. It is His gift to us in Christ Jesus (John 8:32, Galatians 5:1). We should be grateful to God that we get to live such a life! Moreover, we have God Himself dwelling with us and in us. Hebrews 13:5 says, “Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, ‘I will never leave you nor forsake you.’” As God’s people, who are doing the will of God (Matthew 7:21), we should always want to do what we are doing!

God bless you, and I love you.
