Updates

Seems like every time we turn around, the computer is getting new updates. There are updates that protect against computer viruses. There are updates that fix broken code. There are updates that add new features. There’s always something being updated. Why? The goal is to make the computer better somehow. Does it always work that way? No. Sometimes, the updates make things worse for a while until they can release a new update for the update. Ha!

Christians need updates too! Sin has broken our code. Satan is always trying to sneak in a spiritual virus. The world presents new “features” to which the Christian must respond. How do we get our updates? Fortunately, God has given us everything we need to be updated. It’s called the Bible. Paul wrote, “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work” (2 Timothy 3:16-17). Whether we need correction, protection, or edification, the word of God gives us what we need.

The good news is that we don’t have to wait on a software company to send us the update. We can get them at any time by opening our Bibles and studying God’s word. In addition to that, we can get major updates every Sunday and Wednesday by coming to worship and Bible study. Regular updates will keep our Christian “system” functioning well. We’ll be able to protect ourselves against Satan’s “viruses,” and we will have our “code” fixed too. We will know how to respond to the world’s new “features” because the word of God will inform us what to do. Why not download God’s update for you today?

God bless you, and I love you.
