Reservations?

It’s funny how some words in the English language can mean two opposite things. These words are called contranyms. The word “cleave” can mean “to divide” or “to remain united.” The word “reservations” is kind of like that. It can mean that you want something, like making reservations for a dinner. It can also mean that you don’t want something as in “I have reservations about that.” Not too long ago, I was planning a trip. I had reservations about planning too soon until I realized that there were few reservations left. So, I started making my reservations and let go of my reservations about it!

I wonder if some people feel that way about going to heaven? They must, because they keep putting it off. The good news is that, while the world continues, heaven is never going to run out of reservations. A man may call upon God at any time to be saved. Ananias said to Saul, “And now why are you waiting? Arise and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on the name of the Lord” (Acts 22:16). The water is always ready at our building to baptize someone who so desires to call upon the name of the Lord! The Christian has his reservations made in heaven. Peter wrote that we have an “inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you” (1 Peter 1:4).

The bad news is that one day, the time for making your reservations in heaven will be no more! God is going to judge the world in righteousness (Acts 17:31). If one has not made his reservations, he will not have a place in the eternal kingdom. This is one reservation about which you must not have reservations!

God bless you, and I love you.
