Happy Mother’s Day

Where would we be without mothers?! They are to be honored and cherished as we seek to live according to God’s holy command. Jesus loved His mother and cherished her so much that while he was writhing in pain on the cross, He mustered the strength to ask the apostle John to take care of her after His death. He believed in the fifth commandment, honor your father and mother, and did not let His pain prevent Him from doing that.

Mothers often teach us very early what it means to sacrifice. They do without so that we might have things that we need. They rise early and stay up late preparing for the coming day to ensure that their children are provisioned. What we learn about how to help others in life comes largely from our mothers’ teaching. God made mothers to convey these qualities to us so that we could bless one another. “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service” (Romans 12:1).

Mothers also teach us what it means to convey affectionate love as they are the emotional bond of the family. A loving mother will help us develop balanced feelings so that we may appropriately display our care and concern for others. This is a quality that Christians are commanded to have for other Christians as well. Paul wrote, “Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honor giving preference to one another” (Romans 12:10).

As wives, mothers also help us understand our duty to God by showing allegiance and faithfulness to their husbands (Ephesians 5:33). This teaches us respect and goes a long way toward peace in the world. First Peter 2:17 says “Honor (Respect) all people.”

God bless you, and I love you.
