PROPOSITION: To examine Daniel 10 in preparation for understanding Daniel 11 and 12. Daniel’s devotion to God elucidates God responding with information of comfort regarding the future state of Israel

OBJECTIVE: The student should be able to understand Daniel’s devotion to God and God’s response of knowledge to Daniel.

INTRODUCTION:

1. Read: Daniel 10:1-6

2. About the Text:

1) Daniel 10-12 is really all one episode.

2) It is the third year of the reign of Cyrus.

3) A thing/word was revealed to Daniel.

4) Time appointed was long.

5) He understood the word and vision.

DISCUSSION:

I.   Daniel’s Fasting (1-3)

1. Daniel was mourning for three weeks.

2. He did not eat.

3. He did not drink.

4. He did not bathe.

II.  The Man of Daniel’s Vision (4-10)

1. It was on the 24th day of the 1st month.

2. He was by the river Hiddikel (Tigris).

3. He looked up and saw a man.

1) He was clothed in linen.

2) His waist was wrapped with fine gold.

3) His body was like Beryl.

4) His face appeared like lightning.

5) His eyes were like lamps of fire.

6) His arms and feet like polished brass in color.

7) His voice was like the voice of a crowd – loud.

4. Daniel’s circumstances.

1) He alone saw the vision.

2) The men with him did not see the vision.

3) They were shaking in fear.

4) They fled and hid themselves.

5) Daniel was left alone.

6) He saw this great vision.

7) There was no strength in him.

8) His normally pleasant appearance became abnormal.

9) He had no strength.

5. Daniel heard the voice.

1) Daniel heard the voice of his words.

2) When he heard the words, he was in a deep sleep.

3) His face was on the ground.

4) A hand touched him.

5) He raised Daniel up to his knees and his palms.

III. Daniel’s Interaction (11-14)

1. The man spoke to Daniel.

1) He said he was greatly beloved.

2) He told him to understand the words.

3) He told him to stand upright.

4) He said that it was to Daniel specifically that he was sent.

5) Daniel stood trembling.

2. The words.

1) He said that Daniels words (prayers) were heard.

2) They were heard from the first day he set about to chasten or humble yourself before God.

3) This man came because of Daniel’s words (prayers).

4) However, the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood him for 21 days.

5) Michael, a chief prince, came to help him.

6) He then remained with the kings of Persia.

7) He is now here to make Daniel understand in a vision what will happen in the latter days.

8) The vision is yet for many days.

IV.  Daniel’s Fortification (15-21)

1. Daniel’s reaction.

1) He set his face to the ground.

2) He became mute.

3) One of those who are like the son of men touched Daniel’s lips.

4) Daniel spoke.

2. Daniel’s Words

1) The vision had caused him to lose his strength.

2) Daniel had no strength.

3) He could not continue the conversation without it.

4) He had no strength nor breath left in him.

3. The Response to Daniel’s Words

1) One having the appearance of a son of man touched him.

2) This strengthened Daniel.

3) He says to Daniel: “O man greatly beloved, fear not: peace be unto thee, be strong, yea, be strong.”

4) Daniel was strengthened.

5) He consented to the man’s speaking because he could bear it now; he was strengthened.

6) He asked Daniel if he know why he came.

7) He announced that he would return to fight the prince of Persia.

8) When he leaves the fight, the prince of Greece would come.

9) He intends to tell Daniel what is in the book of truth.

10) He announces that none fights by his side against these princes except Michael.

11) Michael is Daniel’s prince.

V.   Great Messages from this Chapter

1. God hears the prayers of the saints.

1) Proverbs 15:29 “The LORD is far from the wicked: but he heareth the prayer of the righteous.”

2) Isaiah 38:5 “Go, and say to Hezekiah, Thus saith the LORD, the God of David thy father, I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will add unto thy days fifteen years.”

3) 1 Peter 3:12 “For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil”

2. There is a great spiritual battle being fought.

1) 2 Kings 6:16-17

2) 2 Corinthians 10:3-6

3) Ephesians 6:12 “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”

3. God fights for the cause of his people.

1) Exodus 14:4 “The LORD shall fight for you.”

2) Deuteronomy 1:30 “The LORD your God which goeth before you, he shall fight for you….”

4. God exalts the humble.

1) Pr 16:19 Better it is to be of an humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the proud.

2) Jas 4:6 But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.

3) 1Pe 5:5 Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.

5. God strengthens His servants with His word.

1) Psalm 119:28 “My soul melteth for heaviness: strengthen thou me according unto thy word.”

2) Ephesians 6:17 “The sword of the Spirit which is the word of God.”

3) Heb 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

6. God wants His people to know His ultimate plans.

1) Revelation 22:7 “Behold, I come quickly: blessed is he that keepeth the sayings of the prophecy of this book.”

2) Revelation 22:14 “Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.”

7. We must have faith in God’s promises for victory.

1) 1 John 5:4 “For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.”

2) Re 12:11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.
