When We All Get to Heaven

1. Read: Philippians 3:20

2. About the Text:

1) Paul says that as Christians, our citizenship is in heaven.

2) We may enjoy blessings here on the earth, but heaven’s blessings will outweigh them all.

3) We may need to make sacrifices and undergo hardships here, but heaven’s glory will outweigh them all.

4) If we aim at earth and miss heaven, we will lose everything!

5) If we aim at heaven, we get everything!

3. The song, when we all get to heaven…

1) Written by E. E. Hewitt from Philadelphia, PA. in 1898.

2) She was an English teacher and superintendent of a primary school.

3) She began writing poems due to a spinal problem.

4) She wrote over 2000 poems, some of which became hymns.

1. “Sing the wondrous love of Jesus, Sing His mercy and His grace; In the mansions bright and blessed He’ll prepare for us a place.”

2. The love, mercy, and grace of Jesus makes heaven possible.

1) “For we ourselves were also once foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving various lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful and hating one another. But when the kindness and the love of God our Savior toward man appeared, not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior, that having been justified by His grace we should become heirs according to the hope of eternal life” (Titus 3:3-7).

2) “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many” (Mark 10:45).

3. He left earth to go to heaven to prepare a place for us.

1) “Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also” (John 14:1-3).

2) “Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea. Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband” (Revelation 22:1-2).

1. “While we walk the pilgrim pathway Clouds will overspread the sky; But when trav’ling days are over Not a shadow, not a sigh.”

2. We are going to have troubles in this life.

1) “These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world” (John 16:33).

2) “Strengthening the souls of the disciples, exhorting them to continue in the faith, and saying, ‘We must through many tribulations enter the kingdom of God.'” (Acts 14:22).

3. But heaven is a perfect place free from trouble.

1) “And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away” (Revelation 21:4).

2) “He will swallow up death forever, And the Lord GOD will wipe away tears from all faces; The rebuke of His people He will take away from all the earth; For the LORD has spoken” (Isaiah 25:8).

1. “Let us then be true and faithful, Trusting, serving ev’ry day; Just one glimpse of Him in glory Will the toils of life repay.”

2. We must be faithful to get to heaven. Nothing impure will be in heaven.

1) “Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life” (Revelation 2:10).

2) “Blessed are those who do His commandments, that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter through the gates into the city. But outside are dogs and sorcerers and sexually immoral and murderers and idolaters, and whoever loves and practices a lie” (Revelation 22:14-15).

3) “But there shall by no means enter it anything that defiles, or causes an abomination or a lie, but only those who are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life” (Revelation 21:27).

3. Nothing in this life is to be compared to what will be there.

1) “For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us” (Romans 8:18).

2) “For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory” (2 Corinthians 4:17).

1. “Onward to the prize before us! Soon His beauty we’ll behold; Soon the pearly gates will open-We shall tread the streets of gold.”

2. We need to prize heaven!

1) “I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 3:14).

2) “Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it. And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown, but we for an imperishable crown” (1 Corinthians 9:24-25).

3) “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing” (2 Timothy 4:7-8).

3. We must prize it above all else.

1) You may win a sporting game.

2) You may win a million dollars from publisher’s clearinghouse.

3) You may win a new car from the price is right.

4) But if you do not win heaven, it will be all for nothing.

5) We must prize heaven above all else.
