I. Calls the Mighty to Worship (1-2)
1. Who are the mighty?
1) Possibly government officials of high office (Psalm 82:1-4).
2) Possibly warriors (Job 41:25).
3) Some suggest that these are angelic beings.
4) “For who in the heavens can be compared to the LORD? ??Who among the sons of the mighty can be likened to the LORD? ??God is greatly to be feared in the assembly of the saints, ??And to be held in reverence by all those around Him” (Psalm 89:6-7).
2. What are they to do?
1) Give glory and strength to the Lord.
2) They must recognize that One is stronger and mightier than they.
3) No one is so strong that he cannot worship God.
4) “At the end of the twelve months he was walking about the royal palace of Babylon. The king spoke, saying, “Is not this great Babylon, that I have built for a royal dwelling by my mighty power and for the honor of my majesty?” ?While the word was still in the king’s mouth, a voice fell from heaven: “King Nebuchadnezzar, to you it is spoken: the kingdom has departed from you! And they shall drive you from men, and your dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field. They shall make you eat grass like oxen; and seven times shall pass over you, until you know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomever He chooses.” ?That very hour the word was fulfilled concerning Nebuchadnezzar; he was driven from men and ate grass like oxen; his body was wet with the dew of heaven till his hair had grown like eagles’ feathers and his nails like birds’ claws” (Daniel 4:29-33).
3. Why do we worship?
1) Glory is due to the Lord’s name, Yahweh.
2) The Lord God Almighty is worthy of worship.
a. “I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised” (Psalm 18:3).
b. “You are worthy, O Lord, To receive glory and honor and power; For You created all things, And by Your will they exist and were created” (Revelation 4:11).
3) Worship must be in the beauty of holiness.
a. Some translations say “holy attire.”
