Mary’s Song

1) The angel Gabriel announced to Mary that she would have a child.

2) Mary went to stay with her relative Elizabeth, who was also with child.

3) The Holy Spirit filled Elizabeth to bless Mary and the child in her womb.

1. Magnify and Rejoice

1) Magnify means to enlarge.

2) Rejoice means to take joy in God.

2. God Regarded Her Lowly Estate

1) Mary was in a lowly estate.

2) She was not an upper-class aristocrat.

3) She was to be the wife of a carpenter living in a small village in Galilee.

4) God often does not use the rich and proud; they are too full of themselves to let God into their lives.

5) “God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble” (James 4:6).

3. All generations will call her blessed.

1) Mary was blessed for being the mother of Jesus.

2) She also had to endure suffering.

3) With blessing also comes inherent responsibility.

4) “For to everyone who has, more will be given, and he will have abundance; but from him who does not have, even what he has will be taken away” (Matthew 25:39).

4. God is mighty and His name is holy.

1) For God to save the world through a lowly maidservant like Mary shows His power.

2) It also demonstrates God’s holiness.

3) He does not look at things the way that people look at things.

4) “For thus says the High and Lofty One Who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: “I dwell in the high and holy place, With him who has a contrite and humble spirit, To revive the spirit of the humble, And to revive the heart of the contrite ones” (Isaiah 57:15).

1. God’s mercy is for those who fear Him.

1) “For as the heavens are high above the earth, So great is His mercy toward those who fear Him” (Psalm 103:11).

2) “But the mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting On those who fear Him, And His righteousness to children’s children” (Psalm 103:17).

2. God shows his strength against the wicked by . . .

1) Scattering the proud in the imagination of their hearts.

2) Pulling down the mighty from their thrones.

3) Sending the rich away empty.

4) “For you see your calling, brethren, that not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called. But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty; and the base things of the world and the things which are despised God has chosen, and the things which are not, to bring to nothing the things that are, that no flesh should glory in His presence” (1 Corinthians 1:26-29).

3. God shows his strength for those who fear Him by . . .

1) Exalting the lowly.

2) Filling the hungry with good things.

3) “Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up” (James 4:10).

4) “The Lord lifts up the humble; He casts the wicked down to the ground” (Psalm 147:6).

1. How did God help Israel through Mary?

1) He gave them the Messiah.

2) He gave them a Savior.

3) He gave them a King.

4) But sadly, God’s people rejected what God gave them.

5) “Jesus said to them, “Have you never read in the Scriptures: ‘The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief cornerstone. This was the Lord’s doing, And it is marvelous in our eyes’?” (Matthew 21:42).

6) “This is the ‘stone which was rejected by you builders, which has become the chief cornerstone’” (Acts 4:11).

2. God showed mercy to Israel.

1) He remembered His promises to Abraham and the fathers.

2) “And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed” (Genesis 12:3).

3) “Now to Abraham and his Seed were the promises made. He does not say, “And to seeds,” as of many, but as of one, “And to your Seed,” who is Christ” (Galatians 3:16).

4) “You are sons of the prophets, and of the covenant which God made with our fathers, saying to Abraham, ‘And in your seed all the families of the earth shall be blessed.’ To you first, God, having raised up His Servant Jesus, sent Him to bless you, in turning away every one of you from your iniquities”” (Acts 3:25-26).

3. Who is Israel today?

1) It is the church.

2) “For he is not a Jew who is one outwardly, nor is circumcision that which is outward in the flesh; but he is a Jew who is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the Spirit, not in the letter; whose praise is not from men but from God” (Romans 2:28-29).

3) “But it is not that the word of God has taken no effect. For they are not all Israel who are of Israel, nor are they all children because they are the seed of Abraham; but, “In Isaac your seed shall be called.” That is, those who are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God; but the children of the promise are counted as the seed” (Romans 9:6-8).

4. How does God help us today?

1) By giving us the Bible.

2) By providing the church.

3) By giving us godly parents.

4) By blessing us with faithful families.
