Lessons from Children’s Songs – Part 5
Finally, “Be careful little eyes, ears, hands, and feet” teaches us the necessity of maintaining a holy life before God. The author is anonymous, but the copyright is held by Zondervan Music today. It was written in the 1940s. They lyrics are:
Oh, be careful little eyes what you see.
Oh, be careful little eyes what you see.
For the Father up above is looking down in love.
So be careful little eyes what you see.
The same words are repeated with “ears” and “hear,” “hands” and “do,” “feet” and “go,” and “tongue” and “say.”
These are great lyrics for our children to hear! God does not want us to just behave in any old way we please. Peter wrote, “Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; as obedient children, not conforming yourselves to the former lusts, as in your ignorance; but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, because it is written, ‘Be holy, for I am holy’” (1 Peter 1:13-16). We must live lives of holiness before God. Hebrews 12:14 says, “Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord.” This refers to our behavior. Paul makes this clear in 1 Thessalonians 4:3-8. He wrote, “For God did not call us to uncleanness, but in holiness. Therefore he who rejects this does not reject man, but God, who has also given us His Holy Spirit” (1 Thessalonians 4:7-8). We must pay attention to our eyes, ears, hands, feet, and tongue! Each one of these could be a sermon in themselves.
These children’s songs have great principles for us to learn and follow all of our lives. Let us remember them and keep them in our hearts always!
God bless you and I love you,
