Lessons from Children’s Songs – Part 1
The most sublime truths can be learned through children’s songs. I think that this is because the greatest truths are the simplest ones. There are several that come to mind. Among them are: “Jesus Loves Me,” “Jesus Loves the Little Children,” “Climb Up The Mountain,” “Roll The Gospel Chariot Along,” and “Be Careful Little Eyes, Ears, Hands, and Feet.” There are many more that could be listed, but let’s look at these few and just note some great lessons taking a few truths from each one.
Jesus loves me! this I know, / for the Bible tells me so. / Little ones to Him belong. / They are weak, but He is strong.
Jesus loves me! He who died, / heaven’s gates to open wide. / He will wash away my sins, / let His little child come in.
Jesus loves me! loves me still, / tho’ I’m very weak and ill; / From His shining throne on high, / Comes to watch me where I lie.
Jesus loves me! He will stay / close beside me all the way; / If I love Him, when I die, / He will take me home on high.
Yes, Jesus loves me. Yes, Jesus loves me.
Yes, Jesus loves me. The Bible tells me so.
“Jesus Loves Me” is probably the most sublime song of which I know. It was written by Anna Bartless Warner in 1859. This song tells the truth that it was love that motivated Jesus to sacrifice himself on the cross for our sins. It tells us that he will take care of our needs. How do we know these things? “The Bible tells me so.” All saving truth is found within the Bible and nowhere else. Jesus loved us enough to save us and leave His word so we can follow it.
