TITLE: The Authority of Christ
SUBJECT: Jesus
PROPOSITION: Christ has all authority because 1) He is the Creator, 2) We were created for Him, 3) He supports and sustains us, 4) He is the head of the church, 5) The fullness of God dwells in Him, 6) He reconciles all things to Himself by His sacrifice.
OBJECTIVE: We need to understand that it is all about Jesus and make His purposes the center of our life.
INTRODUCTION:
1. Read: Matthew 28:18
2. About the Text:
1) After Jesus resurrection God gave him all authority.
2) The book of Colossians tells us more about the authority of Christ.
3) Most people on the planet go through life not understanding this.
4) Christ’s authority will judge them whether they want it to or not (2 Corinthians 5:10).
5) Let’s talk about the authority of Christ from Colossians 1:15-20.

DISCUSSION: Christ has all authority because . . .
I. He is the Creator (15-16).
1. John 1:1-2 – “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God.”
2. Hebrews 1:1-2 – “God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds.”
II. We were created for Him (16).
1. “For it was fitting that he, for whom and by whom all things exist, in bringing many sons to glory, should make the founder of their salvation perfect through suffering.” (Heb.2:10).
2. “For it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.” (Phil.2:13).
III. He supports and sustains us (17).
1. “He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power” (Heb.1:3a).
2. “Yet he did not leave himself without witness, for he did good by giving you rains from heaven and fruitful seasons, satisfying your hearts with food and gladness.” (Acts 14:17).
IV. He is the head of the church (18).
1. “And he put all things under his feet and gave him as head over all things to the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills all in all” (Eph.1:22-23).
2. “For the husband is the head of the wife even as Christ is the head of the church, his body, and is himself its Savior” (Eph.5:23).
V. The fullness of God dwells in Him (19).
1. “No one has ever seen God; the only God, who is at the Father’s side, he has made him known” (John 1:18).
2. “He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature” (Heb.1:3a).
VI. He reconciles all things to Himself by His sacrifice (20).
1. “After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high” (Heb.1:3b).

CONCLUSION:
