SUBJECT: Evangelism

PROPOSITION: In this lesson, we will look at the fact that God speaks to our friends and some things that God has to say to our friends.

OBJECTIVE: Each should be able to tell their friends some basic things God has said to them.

AIM: I want to help make our members more confident about evangelizing their friends.

INTRODUCTION:

1. Read: Hebrews 1:1-2 – “God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds.”

2. About the Text:

1) This verse teaches us that God has spoken to us through His Son.

2) This includes His speaking to our friends.

3) Our friends talk about God all the time whether we know it or not.

4) What are we saying to them about God?

3. Ref. to S, T, P, O, and A.

DISCUSSION: What does the Bible say to our friends?

I.   God is Real and Has a Message for All People.

1. John wrote, “This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all” (1 John 1:5).

2. God has revealed himself to us today in His word, the Bible.

3. We must handle it correctly – “Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth” (2 Timothy 2:15).

4. The Bible is divided into the Old Testament and the New Testament.

5. The Old Testament was God’s message for the nation of Israel.

6. “The Lord our God made a covenant with us in Horeb. The Lord did not make this covenant with our fathers, but with us, those who are here today, all of us who are alive” (Deuteronomy 5:2-3).

II.  The New Testament is God’s Message for Everyone Today

1. The New Testament is the message of the gospel, the good news of Jesus Christ.

2. “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek” (Romans 1:16).

3. The purpose of the Bible is the salvation of man and the glorification of God through Jesus Christ.

4. “Who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth” (1 Tim.2:4).

5. No one will be saved outside of Jesus.

6. “Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” (Acts 4:12).

III. The New Testament Tells Us About Jesus Christ

1. God speaks through Jesus today.

2. “God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds” (Hebrews 1:1-2).

3. Jesus was a real person who lived in a real place and time.

4. He came to give us the abundant life.

5. “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly” (John 10:10).

IV.  Jesus Loves Us and He wants us to Love Him and One Another

1. Jesus proved that He loved mankind by laying down His life.

2. “Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends” (John 15:13)

3. Jesus taught us to love God and love one another.

4. ‘Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.’”’ (Matthew 22:37-39).

V.   God Has Reveals Himself Through His Son, Jesus Christ.

1. Jesus is God and the revelation of God to mankind.

2. ‘But to the Son He says: “Your throne, O God, is forever and ever; A scepter of righteousness is the scepter of Your kingdom’ (Hebrews 1:8).

3. “No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him” (John 1:18).

4. Jesus is also man and sets the perfect standard for man.

5. “Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared in the same, that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil” (Hebrews 2:14).

6. “And so it is written, “The first man Adam became a living being.” The last Adam became a life-giving spirit” (1 Corinthians 15:45).
