Jesus Chose (Part 2)
Jesus chose NOT to commit sin. We read in 1 Peter 2:22 “Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth.” Jesus lived a perfect, sinless life. Admittedly, we don’t (1 John 1:8-10). However, we must try NOT to sin as it is an affront to God and if we live in sin, we will be separated from God (Isaiah 59:2). Jesus always chose not to sin. He was tempted directly by Satan, but He chose not to sin (Matthew 4:1-11). He was tempted by Peter’s weakness (Matthew 16:22-23), but He chose not to give in. If He chose not to sin, we can choose not to sin too when we are faced with temptation (1 Corinthians 10:13).
Finally, Jesus chose to give up His life for us. He says in John 10:17-18, “Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again. No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father.” He chose to endure the illegal trial. He chose to endure the Roman humiliation. He chose to endure the scourging. He chose to endure the agony of the cross. If he chose to give His life for me, I can choose to give my life to Him (2 Corinthians 5:15)!
“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God” (Romans 12:1-2).
