Our summer break is almost over, and it is time to get ready for school once again. Children need new clothes. Teachers need supplies. Administrators need haircuts. Everyone is getting ready to begin the next year. We have two going back to school this year. One is in 9th grade and the other in 12th. These are our last two and we are on our last leg (of school)! We want to make the most of this year and see that it goes very well for everyone.

Back to school time is also a great time to think about spiritual priorities. Many are coming off summer vacation and getting back into the routine of daily living. This time reminds us that life in the fast lane isn’t necessarily what it’s advertised to be. Sometimes, it’s best to slow down, think about our lives soberly, and focus on what is important, and wherever we go and whatever we do, loving God and loving our neighbor is the priority (Matthew 22:38-40).

What can we do this week to help our parents, children, teachers, and school staff have a great start to the new school year? Here is a great place to think about serving others, and in so doing, God will be pleased by our efforts. The church in New Boston has changed since our youngest attended kindergarten here in 2014, but that is a good thing because it means that we are a living body of Christians. God can’t use the dead; He can only use the living, and that is what he wants us to be – living soldiers of Jesus Christ ready to take on the mantle of service for Him.

God bless you, and I love you.
