With ___________ All Things are Possible

Perhaps you are thinking of Jesus’ statement in Matthew 19:26, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” However, just the other day, I heard a popularly watched YouTube host say, “With science, all things are possible.” I had to shake my head in frustration because science frequently fails to deliver what it promises (we still have poverty, hungry children, pollution, death, disease, disasters, etc.), yet, in the popular mindset, the world attributes the success of just about everything to science.

Scientism is the belief that science can and will solve all of mankind’s problems. Does science solve some problems? Sure. It has done much to find cures to disease, improve lifestyles, help with transportation, and facilitate communication. But science cannot answer the question of what to do with these things. The same research that cures disease can also create biological weapons. The same technology that improves lifestyles can also destroy cities. Science cannot inform us as to how to use these powerful tools. Science cannot answer the question, “What is the meaning of life?”

Only the Creator gives us the ultimate answers to life’s most vexing questions. Jesus said, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself” (Matthew 22:37-40). Here is the answer to all of life’s fundamental questions. It is mankind’s great purpose to love God and His neighbor. When we do these things as God has commanded in His holy word, the world is a much better place, and with God all things are truly possible.

God bless you, and I love you.
