Well Pleasing – Part 4

How we can partake of the Lord’s Supper in a manner that is pleasing to God. We must partake by faith. Hebrews 11:6 says we cannot do anything in relationship to God and hope to please Him unless it is by faith. Faith comes by hearing the word of God (or Christ) (Romans 10:17). God’s word teaches us how to partake of the Lord’s supper (1 Corinthians 11:23-29). When we follow this teaching by faith, we will please God. What does this entail?

First, we must give thanks. We often say some very good things during the Lord’s Supper but neglect to say, “Thank you.” This is really what the Lord’s Supper is all about: giving thanks to God for the gift of His Son Jesus, for His body and for the blood that He shed for us. The bread and fruit of the vine help us to remember the sacrifice that Christ made for us. We need to verbally express our thanksgiving during the Lord’s Supper to be pleasing to God!

Second, we must reflect upon Christ’s sacrifice. If our minds are somewhere else, are we really observing the Lord’s Supper in a way that is pleasing to God? We must remember that God gave Jesus a body. He used that body to glorify God every day. He offered that body as a sacrifice. We must remember that Jesus shed His blood on the cross. Do we think about the nails piercing His hands and feet? Do we see the spear cleaving His side? If we are not thinking about the sacrifice of Christ while we are partaking of the Lord’s Supper, we are not observing in a way that is pleasing to God.

God bless you, and I love you.
