We should all desire understanding from God and to understand the Bible. Understanding comes from 1) Effort, 2) Knowledge, 2) Unity. The hearer should understand how we should desire understanding. The aim of this lesson is to set forth ways for desiring understanding.
If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it
The Bible speaks of complaints that are unwarranted, but also of complaints that are warranted or righteous. We will look at these two areas and then examine some of the results of both warranted and unwarranted complaints. Each should understand the difference between righteous and unrighteous complaints and their results. This lesson is designed to help us understand how to handle complaints and the proper role of repentance in complaints.
To avoid building an empire of sinful desire we must 1) Know Our Own Desires, 2) Distinguish Between Legitimate and Illegitimate Desires, 3) Recognize Our Ultimate True Desire. The hearer should be able to impede sinful desires and facilitate desires for Jesus. In this sermon, I want to impart some spiritual tools whereby the hearer will be able to recognize his/her desires.
Fear comes from 1) Lack of Knowledge, 2) Lack of Love, and 3) Lack of Faith. That we may be able to overcome our fears and live in love, peace, and fellowship with one another.
In this lesson we will study the topic of envy through the story of Israel’s desiring a king and Saul’s envy of David. Each person should understand how envy progresses: It begins with comparisons, distorts reality, and destroys its victims. I hope to impress upon each listener the truly diabolical nature of envy.
