Did Jesus Come to Bring Peace or a Sword?

The section of scripture with which we are concerned falls within the sundry warnings that Jesus is giving to his disciples regarding the lost sheep of the house of Israel.  Jesus words to them are basically this.  Don’t expect that you will receive a warm welcome out of the unfaithful.  When you preach the gospel, people are going to become your enemies.  In this sense, Jesus’ came to bring a sword.  The warning of Micah describing the unfaithful holds true here.  Even among families, there will be division.  This is the typical response of the unfaithful.

The Love of Christ Controls Me

The love of Christ controls me 1) To treat people with dignity and respect, 2) To be a living sacrifice by humbling myself, and 3) To overcome the ambition of selfish desires. The hearer will learn how the love of Christ controls the life of the Christian to act in a respectful, humble, and selfless way.

Grace Upon Grace

To know Jesus is to know grace because Jesus was 1) Full of Grace and Truth, 2) The Giver of Grace Upon Grace, and 3) The Revealer of Who God Really Is. In this lesson, the listener should understand that grace comes from and through Jesus Christ because he is the incarnation of grace itself. I hope that with this sermon I can help us be a more gracious people.
