OBJECTIVE: In this lesson, we will study verses 33-40 of Psalm 119 and note how God’s law gives us life.
INTRODUCTION:
1. Read: Psalm 119:33-40.
2. About the Text:
1) Psalm 119 is the longest Psalm.
2) It is broken down into the letters of the Hebrew alphabet.
3) Each section sends a different message about God’s word.
3. Ref. to S, T, P, O, and A.
DISCUSSION: Life in God’s Law Means . . .
I. Commitment (33-34)
1. To the way of God’s statutes.
1) Jer.10:23
2) Ecclesiastes 12:13
2. To understanding how to keep God’s law.
1) Psalm 1:1-2
2) James 1:22 – a doer of the word.
3. To observing God’s law with a whole heart.
1) Matthew 22:37-40
2) James 1:8 – not double-minded.
II. Cheer (35-37)
1. To be led by God.
1) Rom.8:14 – “all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God.”
2) Galatians 5:22 – practice the fruit of the spirit.
2. To not pursue selfish gain.
1) Hebrews 13:5 – Let your conduct be without covetousness….
2) 1 Tim.6:6 – Godliness with contentment is ….
3. To pursue life in God’s ways.
1) John 10:10
2) John 20:30-31
III. Confirmation (38-40)
1. In God’s promises.
1) 2 Peter 1:3-4
2) 2 Corinthians 1:20 – all promises are “yes” in Christ.
2. Not to be reproached – 2 Timothy 2:15 – Study . . . need not be ashamed.
3. Life in God’s righteousness – 2 Cor.5:21 in Christ.
