DISCUSSION: We adore Christ . . .

I.   By putting Him First in our lives.

1. We must know this is God’s will.

1) Seek first – Matthew 6:33

2) The first command – Matthew 22:37-38

2. We need to know how to put God first.

1) It means we acknowledge his authority over our whole life (Colossians 3:17).

2) It means that everything we do we do to the glory of God (1 Corinthians 10:31).

3. Why do we put God first?

1) We don’t have all the answers (Jeremiah 10:23).

2) God has all the answers (Proverbs 3:5-6).

3) If we trust in God’s word we can do the right thing.

4) If we don’t then we sin, offend God, and mess up our lives.

4. We adore Christ by putting Him first.

II.  By Obeying His Commands

1. If we love Jesus we will keep his commands.

1) John 14:15 “If ye love me, ye will keep my commandments.”

2) Obedience is a simple concept. Do what you are told to do.

3) We prove our love for Christ by our obedience.

2. Christ loves us for doing so.

1) John 15:10 “If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in his love.”

2) John 14:21 “He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.”

3. These commands are not grievous or burdensome.

1) 1 John 5:3 “For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.”

2) God doesn’t want to make our life miserable; He wants us to enjoy life, be safe, healthy, and sound.

3) Obeying His commands is the best way to do this.

4) Loving Christ is also loving ourselves.

III. Because He First Loved Us

1. Christ has shown his love for us.

5) 1 John 4:19 “We love him, because he first loved us.”

6) We can’t properly love God while in sin.

7) Our sins had to first be removed before we could truly love Him.

8) 2 Corinthians 5:21 “For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.”

4. He showed His love by dying on the cross.

1) 1 John 4:10 “Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.”

2) God didn’t have send Jesus to pay for man’s sins.

3) He made a choice to love us.

4) He demonstrated that love in the greatest way possible.

5) John 15:13 “Greater love hath no man than this: that a man lay down his life for his friends.”

5. We adore Christ because He first adored us.

CONCLUSION:

1. We adore Christ . . .

1) By putting Him first in our lives.

2) By obeying His commands.

3) Because He first loved us.
